OUR FOOD IS OUR PASSION

The Codfather started out as a fresh fish deli and retail outlet in The Pavilion Centre in Morningside Sandton.

George Sinovich, The Fishmonger, sold fresh seafood and soon became the leading destination for seafood lovers in Johannesburg. 

Not only did The Codfather serve South Africa, but also exported to African embassies.

George Sinovich recognized a need amongst his loyal customers. He started offering to cook fresh fish orders for customers to take home, his establishment being the first kitchen to do so.

In turn, the first takeaway sushi bar opened in South Africa through his innovative thinking.

The Codfather Sandton opened its first full-service family restaurant incorporating the fresh fish deli and the now beloved Sushi Bar.

Branches were opened in Camps Bay and Blaauberg in Cape Town (Blowfish).

An extension of The Codfather was born, situated in Polofields Waterfall Center.

The venue carries its own charm and individuality with the same quality experience carried through embodying the family values instilled by George Sinovich.

Fresh fish is the heart and soul of our business. We only settle for the freshest ingredients received every day for the best taste experience and quality. Our dishes are lightly seasoned with only a hint of sauce, so one can easily savour the essence of our fresh fish and masterpiece sushi dishes.

Our menu consists of the highest quality beef and lamb cooked to perfection in a specialised wood-fired oven to give it a unique smoked taste. All our desserts and signature Gelato are made in-house, boasting unique recipes exclusive to The Codfather.

The majority of our staff has been with the group for many years, including our beloved Head Chef William Lekoloane, who has been with us since day one.

We offer the finest culinary experience in a relaxed and beautiful environment that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Your visit allows you to tailor your meal by visiting our fresh fish station, picking out your dessert at the cake table or our ice-cream bar.
